Cropwell Bishop Footpaths

Bridleway 1
Runs from Fern Road south to come out Colston Bassett New Road near to the old church. Field on left by Fern Road was site of old windmill. When was it blown down etc. During the Second World War an army camp was set up here. Fields further south extensively quarried for gypsum.

Footpath 2.
Runs north from Fern Road to corner of sewage works site. When you have gone past the school playing field the old village well supplying many inhabitants with water was near to the top of the hill known as Spring Hill. There used to be beech trees around the well.

Footpath 3.
Goes from sewage works to join path 10 in Cropwell Butler.

Footpath 4.
Runs from school access road to Springfield Close and past Rawlins’ Court flats to Church Street. Possible comments on Tom Rawlins and work he did for village.

Footpath 5.
Runs from Church Street along the north side of the Springfield Close houses to join up with footpath 2.

Footpath 6.
Runs west from corner of sewage works to Tythby? Lane.

Footpath 7.
Connects footpath 6 to footpath 3 and footpath 10 in Cropwell Butler.

Footpath 8.
Goes in field along backs of houses on Hoe View Road. These Local Authority houses were built in the 1950’s to accommodate workers at the Avro aircraft factory at Langar aerodrome.

Footpath 9.
Goes north up Mill Lane and through 1970’s development to Hoe View Road and on to footpath 8. Need to comment on name for Mill Lane. Also note that a cruck framed building used to stand at the top of the lane.

Bridleway 10.
Goes from Nottingham road, past the village playing fields and on to Cropwell Butler. It is essentially a continuation of the road from Hickling, Kinoulton and on to Cropwell Butler.

Footpath 11.
Runs from bridleway through the north side of Hoe Hill and up to the canal. Comment on history of Hoe Hill. Note evidence of swing bridge can be seen where footpath joins canal.

Footpath 12.
Runs along east side of canal from Nottingham Road to the swing bridge. Goes through village playing field to begin with. Near to the swing bridge a depression in the ground can be seen from where clay was taken to build canal embankment.

Footpath 13.
Runs from new cheese factory on Nottingham Road across fields to The Fosse.

Footpath 14.
Runs from Foss Cottage farm just south of Colston Bassett – Cotgrave crossing to Cropwell Wolds farm.

Footpath 15.
Runs from Groundwells farm, north west of the Limekiln Pub, across fields to Cropwell Wolds Farm and on to the Fosse.

Footpath 16.
Runs from canal Roving Bridge on Kinoulton Road across Park formed from quarry to Groundwells Farm.

Footpath 17.
Runs from south of Limekiln Pub across fields and on to Owthorpe Fish Ponds.

Footpath 18.
Runs from near Chapel on Nottingham Road across fields to Kinoulton Road. Children used this path to take lunches from home to fathers working at Gypsum Works.

Footpath 19.
Runs from Old Post Office at The Turn south to Blue Hill Bridge on Grantham Canal.

Footpath 20.
Runs off from footpath 19 across fields towards old Colston Bassett Church.

Footpath 21.
Runs from Church Street opposite Parish Room through to Mill Lane.

Footpath 22.
Runs between Stockwell Lane and Churchyard.

Footpath 23.
Runs along northern boundary of Cropwell Bishop parish from Cropwell Butler Road to join bridleway to Cropwell Butler..

Footpath 24.
Runs from bridleway to Cropwell Butler, across field south of Hoe Hill to Swing Bridge on canal.

Footpath 25.
A cut through running from Hoe View Road to Cropwell Butler bridleway.
