Good bye and Good Luck

Pc 147 John Reason will soon leave the Cotgrave / Wiverton area to become the new Police Beat Manager for the Bingham area, a post which recently became vacant following the retirement of Pc 869 Kneale.

Since undertaking the role of Beat Manager in April 2002 John has worked closely with the local community, Cotgrave Town Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council, Housing Associations and other agencies achieve the low levels of crime and disorder that Cotgrave currently enjoys, which are now on par with neighbouring towns and villages. For many years Cotgrave featured highly on lists relating to levels of crime and anti social behaviour in Nottinghamshire. It was a challenging beat, but now over the past few years the town has seen some of the highest crime reductions in the country and crime in the county is at its lowest level for 30 years.

Over the past ten years John has been instrumental in organising and leading on many police operations and initiatives to reduce crime and disorder in Cotgrave often with a problem solving approach.
He was responsible for obtaining the first Anti Social Behaviour Order to be served upon a resident of Rushcliffe and obtained many more ASBOs to kerb those individuals who caused so much trouble, making residents feel unsafe on the streets. It was his idea to bring a second Beat Manager to Cotgrave on an opposing shift to himself and to enlarge the police station for a greater policing presence in the town.
By working with the local councils he has played a significant part in reducing disorder, such as, the Public Place Order that prohibits the consumption of alcohol in the public areas of Cotgrave, the closure of problem alleyways, two section 30 Dispersal Orders and Weeks of Action involving other agencies. He has also encouraged his colleagues to work with residents and partner agencies to improve the behaviour of young people and break the cycle of crime and disorder that was so often passed on from one generation to the next.

John's successor, Pc 3372 Caroline Voce, is a very capable officer who will join the Cotgrave / Wiverton Safer Neighbourhood Team and work hard to further reduce crime and disorder in the area.
