I started my working life as an apprentice bricklayer before going to work for Bingham Rural District Council, then transferring to Rushcliffe Borough Council. I finished work due to an injury in 1998.

My main responsibility is to responed to, advise and assist the Parish Clerk. To bring the Parish Council's notice changes in Government policy. To assist the Parish Clerk in the Council's Health & Safety Policy. To write and review the Council's strategy on Community Engagement. To represent the Council on other local village organisations i.e. The Parish Plan Steering Group, Allotment Assoc., Entertainments & Activities Working Group and Youth Group. I have subsequently been Chair of the Parents Executive of the 34th Nottingham (High School) Scout Group. I am and administrator for the WEA (Workers Educational Association) which is a major voluntary adult education organisation providing learning opportunities of adults from all walks of life I have recently been co-opted onto the Parish Council but have had a long standing interest in parish affairs having been Parish Clerk for 14 years from 1988. I am actively involved in putting on film nights at The Old School, am a member of Cropwell Singers and the Church Choir.

John Greenwood MICE CEng

I am married to Glyn and we have 2 sons who now have their own families living in Australia and Austria. We moved to Cropwell Bishop in 1994 having previously spent 5 years in Bingham.
My career has been in Civil Engineering working for government agencies and private consultants on various engineering projects including major highway schemes. I have been a lecturer at Nottingham Trent University since 1995 and enjoyed research on the use of tree roots to stabilise soil slopes and the development of a self erecting flood barrier. I now work part time at Trent University.
I became a member of Cropwell Bishop Parish Council in 2006 and have taken a particular interest in transportation issues working with the County Council to improve bus services in the area. I believe in improving our environment and was disappointed that the Highways Agency insisted on putting the A46 on an intrusive high embankment at Stragglethorpe dismissing the lower scale scheme proposed by the Parish Council and others which would have kept the A46 at ground level. I will continue to seek improvements and enhanced safety for our village environment.
I enjoy working on the home and garden. The Village Walking and Gardening Clubs provide friendship and local interest. The folk music scene offers me relaxation with the odd camping weekends at festivals (but only if it is good weather!). I used to enjoy sailing and my interest in railways is re-awakened by the sight of a stream engine!

Born and raised in Bingham, Married to Deborah moving to Cropwell Bishop in 1973 we raised our children Matthew and Helen getting involved with the school activities and local scout groups at the time. They have given us three grandchildren, Helen, married to James, have Lillie and George and live here in the Village (Lillie currently at Cropwell Bishop Primary). Matthew married to Michelle, now lives near Ilkeston. On leaving school I became a City and Guilds apprentice for Hawker Siddeley Aviation at Langar airfield works, working on the Shackleton aircraft whilst studying electrical and electronics. When the works closed I worked at various TV based companies getting my final qualifications + gaining the practical and communication side of living in the local community. Opening my own TV business in the village in 1976 it has allowed me to bring the thoughts and feelings of the people I meet here to the council. Joining the Parish council in 1993 I have been involved with most decisions of the council along the way, with particular interest in the Grantham Canal and recent A46 road works planning issues. Hobbies, Campanology, (Church Bellringing) I am currently the Steeple keeper and Guild representative for St Giles, Cropwell Bishop, have taught many people the art of bellringing, and ring many towers all over the country as well as the local ones. Deborah and I started the now famous Cropwell 24hour bike ride, which still runs every two years raising many thousands of pounds for the Memorial Hall , Marie Curie, and the Notts Air Ambulance charities.
